The Top 10 Reasons Why Carpet Cleaning Businesses Fail #1-5

At The Carpet Cleaning College we love to see carpet cleaning businesses grow, develop and become highly profitable, but over the years we have seen too many crumble and fail . Over the next 2 days we will have a look at why so many carpet cleaning businesses fail, and how you yourself can avoid becoming a statistic.

Common Mistake #1 – Not Watching The Money

Many small businesses make silly, frivolous purchases which cumulatively add up to larger amounts which adversely affect cash flow.

There is a saying that goes like this … “Earning money is like digging a hole with a nail … spending money is like pouring water on sand. “

If you need to ask yourself if you can afford it, you can’t. If you need to ask yourself if you need it, you don’t.

Common Mistake #2 – Poor Work-Life Balance

Create a separate work / home area, so that if you are in your work area you are deemed by your family to actually be “at work” and therefore they know not to disturb you unless absolutely necessary.

On the flip side, of course, when you leave your work area, leave work behind and get on with enjoying your family time.

Be sure to take care of yourself and your family so you can have that balanced life that you need to be a good business person and successful human being.

Common Mistake #3 – Not Finding Time

Ensure you find the time to grow your business every single day!

Find just 90 minutes a day to focus on growing your business. This is NOT the time for you to do your invoices or other day to day business stuff; you MUST set this time aside JUST to focus on business growth.

Common Mistake #4 – Not Taking Care Of People

Value your family and staff and give them what they need and reward them with what they enjoy, which may well be more than just money! There is an old saying that goes like this:

“Treat others how you would want to be treated.”

THIS IS UTTER NONSENSE!

You should “treat others the way THEY want to be treated.”

Common Mistake # 5 – Poor Sales And Marketing Skills

Marketing is one of your biggest costs, so don’t spend your money lightly. Learn when to say no to advertisers who just want to fleece you, and learn to spot a real opportunity.

Experiment, learn, be aggressive when searching for a deal, always negotiate terms and always always ALWAYS test and measure your results from your marketing spend!

Coming Up Tomorrow …

The next 5 ways to becoming a failure statistic is coming tomorrow! Until then … all the best
